General EPLWA Discussion / Re: EXPANSION: Where else should the EPLWA be?

Moses Lake is growing indeed and I'm a huge fan of the Blue Heron City. However, the Wenatchee team relies on an influx of Quincy players nowadays. Would a Moses Lake team starting result in a weaker  existing franchise? Someone else mentioned Walla Walla, that's another good spot. Of course, it's far, but so is Spokane from Vancouver and the teams played each other last year, twice.

Just the fact that we are talking about expanding the league is a positive sign for a two-year-old league. As someone who lives on the east side of the state, I'm obviously biased to having more teams on this side of the Cascades, but expansion needs to occur slowly and the next team needs to go in such a location that it doesn't siphon players from squads already in the league. I think a team from the Tri-Cities would fit that bill. So would a team like Pinnacles FC (Penticton, BC). Oregon also fits that description, but would that entail changing the name of the league (EPLNW?)
Thanks for this forum.

General EPLWA Discussion / EPLWA and the US Open Cup
« Last post by David Falk on March 21, 2015, 05:42:17 pm »
There is news in regards to the road Evergreen Premier League clubs can take to qualify for the US Open Cup:

http://thecup.us/ussf-to-take-over-entire-qualifying-process-in-advance-of-2016-us-open-cup/

The US Open Cup committee has finalized plans to have the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) take over the qualifying process for next year’s tournament. The new competition will begin in the fall of 2015 and will involve teams from the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), US Club Soccer (USCS) and the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) with the qualifying teams advancing to the 2016 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup the following spring.

When the registration period begins, any teams affiliated with those organizations can sign up for the 2016 US Open Cup qualifying tournament through the USSF. The teams that enter will be separated based on geographic location as to minimize travel costs, and giving teams from different organizations the chance to play each other.

“I am excited to see the tournament develop and the amateur organizations play a bigger part in regards to adding teams who will be able to pursue qualification now,” said USSSA Vice President and National Director Craig Scriven. “The changes will allow each structured league the ability to be represented in the oldest tournament in the country. We [USSSA], fully support the development and I am excited to see the future of this tournament as more teams compete for the Open Cup.”

It seems to be just exactly the final move to allow EPLWA clubs to consider trying to make the USOC.

Will any clubs take advantage of this?

What are the pros and cons?

The NPSL and PDL make a big deal out of their clubs making the tournament. The EPLWA is a regional league in part because it is trying to keep travel costs down as clubs build their constituencies and infrastructures. Would making the USOC be a gamble that could break the bank? Or, is it an important step in growing the EPLWA?

What about these two hidden gems?"

Moses Lake
Ellensburg

MoLake because it  is a growing area and between Spokane and Wenatchee...and Ellensburg because they don't have a men's soccer program at Central. Or, is that a drawback?

MoLake could play at the HS. Good venue.
